Farmer Veteran Fellowship Fund

The Farmer Veteran Coalition has an exciting grant program that will be open for five weeks beginning February 1st, 2019 at 8 a.m. PST and closes on March 8th, 2019 at 5 p.m. PST.

What is in it for you?

The grant program will provide veterans with awards ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to make purchases to help with launching of their farm business.

What do you need to do?

  1. Go to the link posted on the Fellowship Fund page at www.farmvetco.org/fvfellowship. between February 1st and March 8th, 2019.
  2. Complete the application. (The application consists of both short answer and essay questions and requires veterans to submit a business plan.)
  3. Submit Application.
  4. Wait for the award announcements in April.

The Legal Aid of Nebraska has a Veteran Outreach Program that wants to help you the Veteran achieve your goals of joining Nebraska’s agriculture industry, or help to continue your agricultural enterprise.

The Legal Aid of Nebraska and its Partners would like to:

Assist Veteran farmers and ranchers in owning and operating successful farms and ranches.

Improve participation among Veteran farmers and ranchers in USDA programs.

Build relationships between current and prospective Veteran farmers and ranchers and USDA’s local, state, regional, and national offices.

Introduce agricultural information to Veteran farmers and ranchers through innovative training and technical assistance techniques.

Introduce agricultural education targeting Veteran beginning farmers and ranchers, in rural and persistent poverty areas.

USDA Partners with Texas A&M to Help Veterans Seeking Agriculture Loans and Careers

The United State Department of Agriculture is partnering with Texas A&M. This pilot project will focus on making it easier for veterans to start farming. Here are some highlights of the program:

  • Goal of Program is to make it easier for veterans to meet requirements for loans from the Farm Service Agency (FSA);
  • 15 to 18 veterans will be selected to go through this project;
  • Focus on:
    • Business Planning,
    • Introductory workshops, and
    • Production education;

Veterans interested in this program should gather information and plan to apply. Applications will be open from June 15 and July 20, 2018.
